XWeb: An Architecture for Cross-modal Collaboration
نویسندگان
چکیده
We show how the XWeb architecture can support collaboration across disparate platforms using different interactive modalities. Our collaborative solution imposes limited compatibility requirements on clients and thus enhances the architecture’s scalability to the size of the Internet. The independence of the implementations of interactive clients and servers is essential for pervasive and cross-modal collaboration. Communication about data changes and reasoning about change conflicts can provide such a collaborative substrate. An algorithm for conflict resolution is given. It is shown how the XWeb architecture naturally supports synchronous session management across interactive modalities.

A Reference Architecture for Automation of Inter-Organizational Process-Oriented Collaboration
In today’s competitive, dynamic, and changing business environment, being able to collaborate globally within and beyond the enterprise borders is critical. Inter-Organizational Collaborations (IOCs) have been proposed as a response to the characteristics of highly competitive global business environments. So far, a number of reference models, frameworks, and ad hoc architectures related to som...
متن کاملDesigning for Collaborative Cross-modal Interaction
We describe the design of a collaborative cross-modal tool that supports visually-impaired and sighted coworkers to access and edit shared diagrams in real time and a case study of its use in a real world workplace environment. Our findings highlight the potential of cross-modal collaboration to improve workplace inclusion and identify initial challenges and opportunities for cross-modal design.
متن کاملCollaborative Cross-Modal Interfaces
Diagrams form a key part of how we collaborate in the workplace and the home. However, the visual nature of diagrams makes them difficult to use and manipulate when people have differing perceptual resources available to them, for example, due to visual impairment, or reduced access to computing and network bandwidth. In this paper we describe the potential for cross-modal interfaces to support...
متن کاملSupporting cross-modal collaboration in the workplace
We address the challenge of supporting collaborators who access a shared interactive space through different sets of modalities. This was achieved by designing a cross-modal tool combining a visual diagram editor with auditory and haptic views to allow simultaneous visual and non-visual interaction. The tool was deployed in various workplaces where visually-impaired and sighted coworkers access...
متن کاملDeep Cross-Modal Correlation Learning for Audio and Lyrics in Music Retrieval
Deep cross-modal learning has successfully demonstrated excellent performances in cross-modal multimedia retrieval, with the aim of learning joint representations between different data modalities. Unfortunately, little research focuses on cross-modal correlation learning where temporal structures of different data modalities such as audio and lyrics are taken into account. Stemming from the ch...
